A bit about me, Becky Cortino, so you will know I am experienced in this business aspect, have an understanding of what it takes to be an entrepreneur and a deep affinity for small business:
I established a marketing-PR consultancy in 1982, offering clients an extensive background in all areas of marketing and sales. My work includes broadcasting, advertising, and film production as a copywriter, producer, talent and supervising production; presentations and budgets of accounts with the international agency BBDO-Boston.
Prior to founding my consultancy, I served as Corporate Director of Travel Industry Sales with a hotels group in Florida. Through my efforts the group increased revenues in my market segment by more than 100%. My first job in the travel industry was my appointment as Tourist Development Manager of Tampa/Hillsborough County, which allowed me the exciting opportunity to direct marketing and sales efforts domestically and internationally.
My firm was nominated for the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award. In addition, I have received several other awards and recognitions, including Small Business Administration Small Business Institute Award (for consulting). All through the years, I have made contributions of my professional services to numerous community organizations.
Currently, I am homeschooling our children and have been working with them in developing their own small businesses for the last 8 years — a new venure, to be sure! I have been active on the internet since 1996, established my first website in 1999 and have been harnessing the power of the web for clients in the areas of marketing and public relations. Both my husband and I come from a long line of entrepreneurs — beginning 4 generations ago, when both our families came to America to make a better life here.
